Decriminalize Nature
“Decriminalize Nature” is an action-oriented, volunteer-led peoples’ movement that advocates for equitable access to entheogenic plants and fungi for all people.
Mission: Decriminalize Nature Bloomington is a citywide chapter affiliated with the national grassroots movement dedicated to improving human health and well-being by decriminalizing and expanding access to entheogenic plants and fungi through political and community organizing, education, and advocacy.
Background: In the last five years, similar resolutions have now passed in 25 US cities, including San Francisco, Detroit, Minneapolis, Seattle and Washington DC, as well as two counties and the entire state of Colorado.
Rationale: Research shows these plants and fungi, which our ancestors have relied on as sacred medicines for centuries, have the ability to treat some of the largest health and human relation concerns impacting Bloomington.
They could offer an avenue to addressing the opioid crisis as well as treating other forms of addiction, substance abuse, alcoholism and even smoking cessation.
They have been proven beneficial in treating a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, depression, PTSD, and neurological disorders.
Decriminalization would ensure equitable access to communities most in need.
Known to restore connection to nature, reduce violence and recidivism.
